If You Can’t Get and Hold My Attention Within 10 Seconds, I’m Out! 👋

If your video starts with “Hey guys…” or “Hello Everyone, Welcome Back to my Channel”—you’ve already lost.

In the first 10 seconds, your viewer is deciding:

Is this worth my time?

Most videos fail this test. Here’s how to make sure yours doesn’t.

Within the first few seconds, your audience is making unconscious decisions:

  • Do I trust this person?
  • Does this feel relevant?
  • Is this worth my time?

If you don’t capture that attention immediately, they scroll, swipe, or bounce—often before you’ve even introduced yourself. Brutal, but true.

And, that doesn’t mean introduce yourself first 🙄 Your video’s intro is not the place for fluff.

Your intro is where strategy, structure, and story collide.


What Most People Get Wrong

Let me paint a familiar picture:

You hit record.

You say something like, “Hey guys, so today I want to talk about…”

You warm up slowly… then eventually get to the good stuff.

And by then? Your audience is already gone because nobody cares who you are, they care about what they are going to get.

This isn’t just about being snappy. It’s about earning trust immediately by showing your viewer that you understand their problem—and you’re here to help solve it.

The sad truth is: most creators lose their viewers before the content even starts. Just imagine all the time and effort you put into a great video and viewers never get to the good stuff.


What to Do Instead

Here’s the simple formula we teach inside our Solar System Methodology program and use in almost every piece of content we produce:

🔹 Start with the problem.

🔹 Agitate it just enough to create tension.

🔹 Tease the solution.

🔹 THEN deliver over time.

You’re not just opening a video—you’re opening a loop in your viewers mind.

When you start this way, you’re doing more than “hooking” someone. You’re building curiosity, trust, and clarity all at once.

You making them “stick” which is why in our “Video Script Template” we call the opening “The Honey” 🍯

Think of your video’s intro like the trailer to a movie. If the trailer’s bad, no one buys a ticket. But if it promises something entertaining, valuable, or transformational? People are in.

Try this: watch your own video, and stop it at the 10-second mark. Then ask yourself:

  • Would you keep watching?
  • Is the problem clear?
  • Is there tension or a reason to stay?
  • Do I understand what will come next?

If the answer is no to any of these, that’s your starting point. Don’t overthink it—just tighten that opening.
